A couple of weeks back, I came across this picture on Pinterest of a do-it-yourself glitter starbucks cup. And I was instantly smitten.
Which is kind of weird, because I don’t know that I’m really the kind of girl who gets smitten….let alone uses words like that.
And yet, smitten I was.
If I’m being honest, I think it was the combination of Starbucks and glitter being found that close together in nature that really got me. I mean that’s the kind of interstellar gravitational force that could make a super nova explode….and then rain down confetti. Where it would promptly flutter to the ground and land on the eyelashes of unicorns. Who let’s face it, have always been known for their extra long eyelashes.
Yea, it was that kind of awesome.
And it prompted me to post this on Facebook:
About a week later, we came out of our DC Lighting Intensive around 11:30pm at night. Exhausted but happy, I crawled into the passenger seat and looked up to notice a gift bag stuffed with tissue paper sitting on our windshield. Inside it…. a Starbucks cup diy’d to the brim with teal glitter. It had a note from the amazing Sarah Mitchell thanking us for coming down.
Last night, as we returned home from our travels, we walked in the door with about a half hour to go until sunset. So I grabbed a glass of wine and my latest John Grisham book, and hurried out to the front porch to soak in the last of the golden light while I still could. As I crawled into our front porch swing, exhausted but happy, I looked up to see a delivery box sitting across from me. Inside it…a second Starbucks cup diy’d to the brim with yet another kind of teal glitter. This one bearing a note from our extra amazing bride Tricia saying “we all know you’re too busy to make one for yourself….saw this and thought you’d love it!”
Now here’s the thing.
We ARE really busy right now. My head is spinning and I have absolutely NO idea how it’s September already (seriously how did that happen??)
But guess what….so is everybody else. We’re ALL busy right now.
And for these two people to take time out of their busy schedules, their to-do lists, their things that make their heads spin and the months go in fast forward…..to take time out of all that just do something so thoughtful for us in the midst of our busy season. Well I’m going to be honest, it made me realize that I’ve got a lot of work to do on being a better person. That being thoughtful somehow needs to make its way to the top of my to do list, and being really, really “busy” should never take the place of being really, really kind.
In the past few years of writing this blog, I have been absolutely blown away by the amazing, amazing people it has brought into our lives. And I just want to take a few minutes this morning to say…..thank you. To ALL of you. Thank you for being there. Thank you for taking the time to read along. To leave a comment. To cheer or cry right along beside us. And to reach out across the internet and do something so thoughtful that it somehow takes this big old world and makes it feel smaller. You guys make every crazy, busy day more worthwhile.
And just so you know, and in case it hasn’t been said often enough:
You guys are like the glitter in my starbucks cup. The confetti raining down on my unicorn’s lashes. The pumpkin icing on my three-tiered cupcake.
In short, you make everything better.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for that.
And I think it’s safe to say, right now I am feeling quite smitten.
