Last week we had 13 amazing photographers from all over the country (Wisconsin, Tennessee, DC & VA, Texas and even all the way from Canada) join us for two FULL days of teaching at our Walk Through a Wedding w/ J&M workshop on everything that goes into both shooting the wedding day and all the behind the scenes of running a successful full time business. And what an incredible group it was! We had everyone from just starting out, about to shoot their own first wedding….to been doing in for ten years!
And that’s usually the case with our workshops that we have the whole range, but for some reason this group in particular was packed full of people who fell more in that experienced, shooting 4+ years range. I think that’s such a HUGE compliment, to be able to be a workshop that can not only meet people wherever they are, but also be able to challenge and push people no matter how long they’ve been shooting. There aren’t a lot of resources out there for the more experienced photographer, and I love that we can be one of them! This workshop truly is for everybody, and here in a second we’re going to let you hear from the attendees themselves on everything they got out of it!
**Also, we wanted to let you guys know that our June 10-11th Walk Through a Wedding in CT is now officially OPEN!! We pre-released this to our priority list and now we only have FOUR spots left! AND to make it even more fun, for the next 24 HOURS ONLY, we are doing $300 off your seat when you sign up using the code “EARLYBIRD” The price will go up tomorrow morning at 9am, so don’t MISS it! And we haven’t payment plans available too to help spread it out!
This workshop is two days, TWO styled shoots, over 20 hours of content on everything that goes into a wedding photography business (both the shooting & the business side!) , and one candlelit welcome dinner full of fun! We would LOVE to have you join us!
“For me, Walk Through A Wedding was more than just a workshop, it was a life changing experience. I walked in hoping to learn some new lighting techniques and left feeling like I had all the tools I needed to work as a better photographer and to setup a solid foundation for my new business. I highly recommend Walk Through A Wedding to ANY wedding photographer at any skill level. I can tell you first hand you will not be disappointed. Justin and Mary – I am so grateful I was able to attend in April. Thank you for being open an honest about your journey so I can benefit from the many things you’ve learned over the years. Thank you for sharing your hearts and your home with me. Thank you for reinforcing that there’s nothing wrong with the style of shooting that I love so much. And…last but not least, thank you for answering each and every one of my questions calmly and patiently. I can’t thank you enough.” – Erica Loewenguth
“Thank you guys again for opening your home to us! I knew the Walk Through a Wedding workshop was going to be a game-changer before I signed up, but I could not have anticipated the depth of content and practical application that I gained from this experience. J&M you were dedicated teachers and challenged our group to take risks to get results. You spent time getting to know us, answering our questions and providing great tips & feedback. I am SO happy I made this investment in the future of my business! Keep on being rockstars. You guys are awesome!” –Carolyn Woods
“J&M thanks again for the awesome workshop! This experience has truly changed my life for the better. I’ve wanted to attend a Walk Through for as long as you have offered it. You not only provided me with the technical information that will make my photography better, but you gave me something deeper than that. You stirred up this fiery passion inside that I had when I first started this journey with photography six years ago. You told me to dream bigger and dig in deep into Why I went into this in the first place. This workshop is SO much more than just how to use your camera. I am forever grateful that you took the time for us and helped to bring out the vest version of us as photographers. I loved that you took the time to give us these tools and that nothing was off limits. I’m FIRED up and ready to put this into my business. J&M, simply put, you are a God send to photographers and entrepreneurs and I’m so incredibly thankful for all that you do.” – Shaunae Teske
“The thing about learning is that you are only as good as the teacher. Thank you both so much for your time and energy you put back into the community and craft. I can tell its so much more than making additional money or making a name for yourselves to gain acknowledgement. It’s about cultivating a community of great photographers that give our craft a good name not only from our work but the clients experience! I posted on our group but wanted to send you an email personally. I just landed an additional 2k on top of what this couple had already spent for their wedding day because they got so excited about the brides soon to be wedding photos! Making this the most expensive wedding I’ve ever shot come May!! I can not thank you guys enough for your help and I’m feeling I need some more one on one J&M (and Cooper) time soon! My business has exploded and so has my confidence since I’ve returned home!!! (Woot woot hands in the air happy dance) xoxo from the South!” –Tonya Damron
“Having taken J&M’s Lighting Intensive a couple years ago, I mainly came in to WTAW wanting to learn more about posing and being the primary photographer on a wedding day because I am still fairly new to weddings. I ended up getting so much more than I even expected. I definitely got that insight on posing that I was looking for… although like J&M would say I should say “posing” because it was more about finding a way to create authentic movement and confidence in your subjects than about a set playbook of poses! I got some great guidance on how to get through and manage a day that is typically highly emotional and can often spin out of control… everything from being a calming presence during the getting ready portion to being quick and efficient with the family portraits and the reception details. Finally, Justin & Mary talked with us about everything related to running our businesses, and for me it was the business talk where I learned the most. J&M answered every question openly and shared everything about what they do, how they do it and why. I left with so much to think about with regards to my plans for my own business and plenty of homework! I also left having met some wonderful new photography friends… people who could relate to my situation and who encouraged me. I am so glad I decided to invest in this experience!!” –Erin Schrad
“For some time I had been searching for an educational resource that could help me grow in my lighting capabilities as a wedding photographer. I knew that in order to improve my craft I needed to embrace using an off camera lighting set up but I was completely intimidated by it. Not only did I know that I needed to master the technical side of my lighting equipment but I knew that I needed to understand the “why” of what I was doing. Justin & Mary’s Walk Through a Wedding workshop really helped me to not only grow in my technical abilities but to also dig into the “why” of a lighting set up. Justin and Mary shared with us the understanding that bringing light into a situation wasn’t about showing off as a photographer but that it was about bringing out the best in what you were photographing. I couldn’t be more grateful for attending this workshop! It was definitely a huge stepping stone for me as a wedding photographer.” – Tiffany Medrano
I think one of the coolest things about this workshop besides all the gorgeous things that we get to photograph, is that we also dig into the hardest parts of the day to shoot. Things like family photos in a time crunch, dark church processionals, shooting the first dance & toasts and using one light to create iconic images, uplighting, sparkler exits & fireworks! This is truly a bootcamp for shooting the wedding day. Stay tuned tomorrow for the recap of Day 2!!
And as always, there is just NO WAY we could ever put this workshop on without the help of an amazing group of wildly talented, successful, and super busy team of creatives who give so selflessly of their time and always make us look way better than we deserve! Every single one of these people is at the very top of their game, and the fact that we get to work with them is one “pinch me” moment after another! We LOVE & highly recommend all of these guys!
