Choose Our Adventure: TV on DVD

So Justin, Julia & I just got back from a wedding on Saturday and then a double-header engagement shoot in the city yesterday! Woo hoo…life is movin’ fast! Well on the way back last night, J & I were talking about what we were going to do with ourselves now that The Office is finished for the season. So we decided we should do the only logical thing and find another TV show to become addicted to over the summer! Y’know with all our free time n’ such! :P See, the way that we got into The Office in the first place is that we both got sick and so we rented the first season to watch while we recovered.

We finished that the first night.

On the second day we went back out, fevered and all, and rented Disc 1 of Season 2….which we finished by lunch time.

So we ventured out yet again, and this time bought seasons 1-4 on DVD. I think you see where this is going.

We finished that by the end of day three! Our fevers were gone and I had a whole new appreciation for jello molds. And life has never been the same since.

So we’re looking to do it again. Not all in three days you understand…but spaced out over the summer to get us through until The Office is back. So far we’ve narrowed down our choices to 5: Dexter, Heroes, Lost, 24, and 30 Rock.

And we’ve kind of reached a stand still because we’re not sure which one to pick from there. So we decided that we’re going to let YOU choose what will be our new addiction for the summer!! Pretty cool, eh? :) Just leave your vote in the comment box, and whichever of the 5 gets the most votes will be the one that we watch all summer.

**AND to make it worth your while, we will be picking one lucky winner who voted on the winning show (follow that?) to receive a whole set of their favorite show (up to 5 seasons…y’know just in case your favorite show happens to be ER, in which case we would need our own stimulus plan to afford all 57 seasons, or whatever they’re up to!!) This contest is open to EVERYBODY so it will be a great chance for all you non-photographers who are always telling me that you’re not sure if you should comment or not to get in on the action too! So here’s your chance! The contest will end at 5pm tomorrow!

So go on….CHOOSE OUR ADVENTURE!!

  1. Dennis Bullock

You know we are in the same boat and I have been thinking LOST. I have never watched one episode but it looks amazing and I think you guys would enjoy it too since it looks like it has some suspense that would fill your love for horror! :)

  2. Stacey

    30 Rock rocks!!! lol :)

  3. Kellan

Oh man, I am split down the middle on LOST and 30 Rock for two totally different reasons. LOST is probably my favorite show BRILLIANT plots and twists but 30 Rock, comic genius. Either one is a winner in my book.

  4. Samantha Harkins

Heroes. 30 Rock is a great show, but Heroes is unlike anything else on TV. It’s entirely addicting. I used to watch LOST too, but they lost me (no pun intended) around season 3. Heroes is extremely well written is just a fantastic show!

  5. Janice Day

Dexter. Definitely Dexter. I mean, a show that makes you love a serial killer?!? You gotta get in on that.

  6. Diana Daley

30 Rock – hands down! I can’t believe you don’t have The Tudors on your list though. Jonathan Rheyes Meyers — nuff said.

  7. Molly

    (Entourage) :)

But if I really had to pick from your top 5: Dexter.

  8. Alicia

The first couple seasons of Heroes was pretty awesome, but my vote would be for Dexter. Then again – I’ve never seen an episode of Lost or 24….Happy Summer guys:-)

  9. carrie

a friend let us borrow season 1 of lost and we can’t get past ep.3 – we make fun of it most of the time. it’s like a bad soap opera. i’ve never seen heroes or dexter, but have heard great things about dexter. so that’s my pick!

  10. Tiffany

LOST! Its such an intriguing show! I actually watched all of season one in 2 days when I was laid up from surgery and then I preceded to get my whole family addicted to it LOL!

  11. Meaghan

My vote is for LOST! I was skeptical at first, but after a few episodes, I was hooked!

  12. Irena

So, you’re facing a crossroads. It’s really a matter of what do you want your summer experience to be? Do you want to burn your comedy addictions right away? Or go into some delicious plotty-goodness? My take: 24 and Heroes peters out after the first season (or two). 30 Rock and Dexter are ones I haven’t seen but are on Danny and my "ToWatch" list, so maybe if you pick those we’ll join you. =D But, LOST, on the otherhand, would be my pick for you… if for anything, so that you could be tormented with us next season as the story comes to a delicious close, and there’s nothing like getting caught up in a pop culture phenomenon as it’s going on! Season 2 and 3 aren’t great, but you just have to power through them! Season 4 and 5 have been FANTASMIC! (Season 5, especially). They got some really good comic book writers to tie it all together and though at times confusing, it is brilliant. Good luck in your choice. :)

  13. Nora

Lost is awesome for the first 3 seasons, then gets weird. I’m still addicted though, but it’s different. I know it’s not one of your five, but I highly recommend Arrested Development–it’s hilarious! Granted, you’ll finish it in a day, so then you can do 30 Rock! :)

  14. Amanda Herzberger

Well I think you would be remiss if you didn’t include "The Wire"….very good show.

24 is highly addictive – like literally you won’t leave your house and will look at each other at 3:30 in the morning and say….just one more episode.

30 rock is funny – I’m 1/2 way through Season 1 but haven’t been too caught up in it.

I’ll leave Lost to Carla – she’s obsessed

Heroes and Dexter I haven’t heard as much about.

Enough chatter. My vote would be for 24 with a note of caution and I would nominate the Wire as well….we’re almost done.

    xoxo

  15. Erin

You so have to go with Lost. My favorite show ever!

  16. Rachel Darley

Hmmm….Never seen Dexter nor 30 Rock… But I’ve been addicted to 24 (Seasons 1,2,3), Heroes (ALL seasons), and I’ve seen LOST but lost track b/c of school, etc, (no pun intended)… gosh… I might just say 24 because there are more seasons of that than Heroes… =) and believe me, you do get addicted!!! "beep beep beep beep" you’ll hear it in your sleep!

  17. Karen Ard

I am completely addicted to Dexter and 24. I’d say Dexter first since there are fewer seasons to catch up on and the new season will start soon so you’ll be ready. Then 24! Jack is the man!

  18. Karen Ard

I am completely addicted to Dexter and 24. I’d say Dexter first since there are fewer seasons to catch up on and the new season will start soon so you’ll be ready. Then 24! Jack is the man!

  19. Tara

LOST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is AMAZING. I was kinda like you – was at home for the holidays one season and me and my family ended up renting season 1, and watching the next 2 seaons in a row – nonstop for 4 days. It is so complex, such great story telling.

  20. Jenn

30 rock…because life has enough drama – you need something great to laugh at.

  21. Valeen

Jack’s the man!! 24 is totally addictive and the good guys will win!! And for something different, Burn Notice! :) Enjoy the summer!

  22. Katherine Bowman

Since I don’t watch much t.v. and haven’t seen any of these shows (yea, really) I would suggest I Love Lucy reruns! :) Does that count?! ;)

  23. Mandy

    Dexter. Just cause.

  24. Lora Carr

Don’t listen to the rest of them and jump on the "24" or "Lost" bandwagon. Everyones doing it (boring) Your show should be….drumroll, please…..NCIS. Yes, I said it. It’s the best. It’s so addicting that when my Netflix plan said that I was over the limit for my instant streaming, I hacked into my sister’s Netflix account to watch just one more episode at 1 a.m. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

  25. robert Norman

30 Rock–no question. The summer is too busy for heavy stuff to watch!

  26. Chelsea Nicole

Definitely DEXTER!! You will fall in love. :) And you’ll probably go through those pretty quick as well, since after season 1 every episode ends in a cliff hanger. So afterward you can start Heroes (really awesome – the series we just got into) or one of the other ones. Great to hear that you guys are doing well! We miss you!

  27. Sara

Mary, I have to say Heroes because it’s the only one I’ve watched and LOVE it. The first two seasons are on DVD and have tons of awesome extras. The third season will probably come out around the end of the summer before season four begins. It’s an excellent show with some of the best special effects on TV. Every episode is like a movie and it has something for everyone! Can you tell how much I love this show? :P

  28. michelle Sidles

Hands Down… 30 Rock! It makes a perfect office replacement!

At least that’s what I’ll be catching up on this summer during my Office withdrawl! :)

    Happy Watching!

  29. Vanessa Price

So I know I have no chance at winning since I’m a special snowflake and am not voting for any of the shows you have listed.

BUT I HIGHLY recommend you look into Battlestar Galactica. I’m not a Sci Fi person at all but Z and I started watching it at the urging of a friend, and we had torn through 4 seasons in a few days time! It’s really good!

  30. Jim Altieri

Well, out of your 5, I’d say you’d really appreciate 30 Rock, and I’m not sure how into Seinfeld you were, but if you liked Seinfeld, then you should absolutely rent some Curb Your Enthusiasm. Oh, and Deadwood RULES. Best tv show ever.

  31. Kathleen Trenske

Definitely 30 Rock. It’s hilarious! My favorite show on TV right now, hands down.

  32. Kathleen Trenske

Definitely 30 Rock. It’s hilarious! My favorite show on TV right now, hands down.

  36. Kathleen Trenske

Definitely 30 Rock. It’s hilarious! My favorite show on TV right now, hands down.

  37. Kathleen Trenske

Definitely 30 Rock. It’s hilarious! My favorite show on TV right now, hands down.

  38. Kathleen Trenske

  39. Kathleen Trenske

Definitely 30 Rock. It’s hilarious! My favorite show on TV right now, hands down.

  40. Kathleen Trenske

Definitely 30 Rock. It’s hilarious! My favorite show on TV right now, hands down.

  41. Chris

Heroes is my fave of the 5. If you like superhero stuff, that is the way to go. LOST is just ridiculous in every way, but I keep watching. One of those 2. Although 30 Rock is pretty funny.

  42. Shannon

I say go with 24. That is the only one I have been hooked on. I have not seen this season (but heard its great) and missed most of last season but all before that were AWESOME!!! Jack Bauer is the man! Good luck and have fun with whichever one you choose! :)

  43. -brittany-

    LOST!!!!!

  44. ~Christie

I would definitely go with Lost out of the 5, but you should seriously check out Battlestar Galactica. My husband made me watch it. I am so NOT a sci-fi fan, but it was so insanely good. I was hooked. It has everything a boy or a girl could possibly want in a tv show. You will never be sorry you watched it! (Coming from a huge Office fan!) Whatever you choose….happy watching!

  45. caroline

Since you’re looking for an Office replacement, I’d definitely go 30 Rock.

  46. MM

@Lora: ooh we totally LOVE NCIS!! We’ll have to take an afternoon break tomorrow to watch an episode! :)

  47. Melissa Gartner

My vote is for Heroes. This show never get boring, and always finds a way to take what you think you know and throw it out the window!

  48. Lindsay

I say out of the ones that you have chosen 30 Rock, but I would tell you to check out NCIS, Lie to Me & Law & Order. My all time fave is L&O but NCIS is moving up in my world:) And Lie to Me is a really cool show.

  49. Anna

Okay guys, you really need guidance in this? OF COURSE the winner is 30 Rock out of those. If you like The Office, you’ll LOVE 30 ROCK–smart, funny, sassy and awesome.

We tivo them both, and get so excited when we have a few weeks of Office/30 Rock episodes to catch up on ALL IN ONE NIGHT. It’s ROCKsome.

  50. Amanda Rae

You absolutely MUST go with How I Met Your Mother! It is legen….wait for it…DARY!

  51. Kelli M

LOST for sure!!! This is my other addiction besides "The Office." It’s probably good that you’re wanting to watch them all back to back, because it can get pretty confusing. *Warning* it’s so much more intense and involving than "The Office" PLUS the episodes are longer so you can just sit down and work your way through it quickly.

  52. Bernadette LaFrance

If you are looking to fill "The Office" void for the summer, I think you guys will really love 30 Rock!

  53. Sarah McCoy

30 Rock is perfect for the summer. Something lighthearted that will make you pee in your pants :)

  54. Krista Photography

LOST, without a doubt. It’s the best. show. EVER! And, you’ll be done with the first 5 seasons just in time to watch the last season live :)

  55. Amy Martin

    24. Definitely!

  56. Sara

I’ve only been addicted to three TV programs so far in my life. Six Feet Under, The Office (original and American), and Lost. From your list, I would choose LOST, but if you haven’t already watched all the episodes of Six Feet Under, I would say THAT is your choice. It is the BEST SHOW EVER! I promise you! Then go for Lost, when you’re done with that! Cheers!

  57. Sarah True

You should add in Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. That show is hilarious! or my all time fav Entourage. But if I had to pick my vote is for 24!

  58. Greg Kanaan

30 Rock! It’s only three seasons long (you can catch up on 1 & 2 on DVD, and part of season 3 on Hulu or NBC.com). Plus, it’s light, airy, and goes down without a fuss. It’s the only appointment viewing for me on TV. Might I also suggest Battlestar Galactica? It’s intense, but incredibly satisfying…

  59. Rhett Olson

I’d recommend 30 Rock. I love Lost as well, but I’d wait till it is over so you can watch it all at once. Otherwise you have to wait till next year with the rest of us to see how everything will be resolved.

  60. Zoe

30 Rock!! But you’ll fly through it so fast you’ll need another one. Rescue Me should be on your list, it’s a great show!! If you haven’t seen Season 1 of 24 that’s a must as well.

  61. paul McNerney

We just watched the first disc of LOST and…yup, full addiction. 24 has been our standby for the last 7 tv seasons we used to call it TV crack :)

  62. Jenna

My vote is for 24…Joe and I are HUGE fans!

  63. Jen

30 Rock is so awesomely quirky and funny. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are hysterical. That would be my vote. And as someone else mentioned, The Tudors is sooo good!

  64. Zach & Jody Gray

Jody and I NEVER watch regular TV, but somehow we ended up getting a DVD of 24 and have been hooked ever since! We are up to season 5 now and this show is AWESOME! It soooo sucks you in and you can’t stop until you realize that it is so far past bead time that you need a day off to watch more of 24! Another killer show is Arrested Development which only has three seasons, but is AMAZINGLY funny! Good luck!!

  65. Val McCormick

I LOVE Heroes and am playing catch up. Rock 30 is another I got lined up since I finally caught up with Weeds. I Say

    HEROES!!!!

    HEROES!!!!

  71. Traci

    24. hands down. . . .except you will have to watch each season all at once because it’s that addicting. Amazingly written, keeps ya on the edge of your seat.

  72. Erik Maziarz

LOST. Definitely. I’m a die hard 24 fan and Dexter is compelling too, but you HAVE to watch LOST! It delves into so many profound subjects and encompasses so many genres (drama, fantasy, science fiction, etc.). And it makes you say, "what?! oh snap!", about 40 times per episode!

  73. David Burke

Man, I love them all! I am going to have to say…. DEXTER. Addicting and surreal that you actually cheer on a serial killer. Total mind mess, but worth it. Second LOST. Third 24. Kay that is enough. Enjoy!

  74. Kayla

If you haven’t watched 24, it’s a MUST! Start at season one. Totally addicting! I love the first five seasons! I’ve watched them all twice.

  75. Ray

I’m going to have to go with, "Dexter!" I’ve never seen the show but I heard it’s about a serial killer and that alone intrigues me. One of these days I’ll be picking up the first season, I just keep prolonging it. Hehe. =P

  76. Jessica

I say go with "Lost". Once you make it through the first 5-6 episodes you are hooked!!! It’s like a good book. I would have said Heroes because this season was amazing…but the 2nd season was horrible.

  77. Jessica

I am going to amend my comment and add that you should watch 30 Rock too….you’ll go through it really fast.

  78. j.

definitely Dexter. I couldn’t get past the first episode initially, so skipped it and after that I totally got into it. Who would have thought you would be rooting for the serial killer.

  79. Jen

Heroes, for SURE!!! I agree that season 2 was weird, but it is the best show on television!

  80. Irene

I haven’t watched any of them except some of LOST. So I would recommend it. It is definitely very different!

I have heard that 24 if amazing, so I may have to try that myself!

  81. Derek

I’m going to have to go with Heroes as well. The second season gave the show a bad rap, but the third more then made up for it. And it’s not that the second season was bad, it’s that it was as amazing as the first. I have heard that Dexter is pretty fabulous though. =)

  82. Tracy

You’ve gotta watch Lost. It’s crazy and incredible and SO exciting. You’ll love it.

  83. Audra

I would save Lost until the series is done and then watch that back to back so my vote is for Dexter – it rocks!

  84. Jaime

If you’re all about laughing, go with 30 Rock.

Great show! Easy to watch and if you miss an episode, you don’t skip 5years of someone’s life!

  85. Mandy

DEXTER! A-mazing. Only downside is you’ll have to wait til September for it to come back on.

  86. Michelle Wade

    LOST!!!
Hands down the BEST show ever I will tell you this, if you rent the first season you will finish it and run out to get season 2 and so on!

  87. Kricia Morris

You have to watch 24…it is by far the most addictive television show EVER!!!

  88. Kristin Mizo

Dexter!!! It is soooo good!! I can’t wait for season 4 to start.

  89. erin harvey

well i’m pretty sure i missed the deadline, but my vote is for LOST. you’re going to have to watch it from the beginning and you won’t want to stop. it should keep you busy all summer for sure. we caught up on the first 2 seasons while my hubby was recovering from his tonsilectomy. made those 2 weeks fly by. =)
