Design Dilemma: Mary’s Office

Alright.

It is about to get all sorts of crazy up in here and we need YOUR help. The next room we plan on tackling in the house is my office, and frankly we’re kind of stuck. Because I don’t just want it to be a desk and a computer stuck in there. If I’m going to be spending hours of my life everyday in there….I want it to be a beautiful, calming room as well. Know what I mean? I have a few ideas bouncing around in my head, but I don’t know if I have a clear vision for it yet.

So. what does my dream office look like? I want it to be Coastal Living meets Restoration Hardware meets Anthropologie. Does that paint a clear picture? Yea, I didn’t think so.

But it’s a start. And I need your help getting to the finished.

So, we are putting a call out to all of our readers to submit design boards (900 pixels wide, por favor) and we are going to narrow it down to our favorite five to put on the blog. Then you guys are going to get to vote on the winner. Now I’m not promising that we’re going to end up decorating the office exactly like the winning design board, but I am hoping to get a ton of ideas in the process. And I *am* promising that the winner of the design board challenge will get a $100 gift card to Home Depot. Not bad right? :)

** To enter, just email your design board to justin@justinmarantz.com by no later than 5pm EST tomorrow! If you don’t know how to make a design board no worries, just send us an email with the pictures of the stuff you like attached and we’ll put it together for you if you’re one of the top 5. And even if you don’t end up entering the contest, definitely leave us a comment with some things you think we should definitely include in the new office. We need the ideas!

And to get you going, here is The Before.

  1. Karen (Mikols) Bonar

BRING IT!!!! :) Oh, and if your winner is in my town, can we request Lowe’s, b/c there’s no Home Depot within 90 miles of our house!!!!

  2. MM

    @Karen: Fair enough! :)

  3. Beth Morgan

I’m ALL over this! I love design almost as much as photography ;). My goal is to give elegant chic with a side of funk. I’m so excited!

  4. Spring

Ok this is going to be fun!!! And it will also be yet another way for me to get totally distracted from doing what I should be doing (cleaning, organizing, book keeping etc). I think my plan might have to start with window treatments for that awesomely huge window!!!

  5. applem00n

Lavender walls. Hanging white canvas sky chair. Gargantuan mirror. Pinned- up picture of you & Justin..

  6. Brandi Corriveau

Will you be meeting clients in this room, or is it a personal home office?

  7. MM

@Brandi: great question! It’s just my personal office….we have a separate meeting room!

  8. Alison

Hmmm, I have to be good and edit a trash the dress session tonight, but had to offer up that you check out Meredith at & unlimited’s door desk.

    What a great idea Mary.
First off, that wall colour kicks a**. Love it. Even though I can’t win (there’s no Home Depot in Australia), I’ll still put in my 2 cents worth.
I see white furniture with pops of raspberry coloured accents (e.g. cushions, vases, knick knacks). You could even have a white bookcase with raspberry accented wallpaper glued to the backboard of the bookcase so it peeks out from the books and ornaments that you put on the shelves. Gold / bronze fixtures & highlights to finish off the look.
Oh, and yellow, pink & white fresh flowers to be provided by your gorgeous husband every week :))
PS. Thanks for checking out our blog. What an honour!!

  11. Stacy Cross

Sounds so fun! I can’t wait to see the entries. :)

  12. Katelyn James

Pottery barn’s white desk that you can mix and match pieces! http://www.copycatchic.com/2008/03/pottery-barn-vs-jcpenneys.html

It would be gorgeous under your window and that would make sure you didn’t have glare on your screen! :) love u!

  13. Trisha

Mary, thank you for visiting my blog! I love your work and style! So fresh! We are moving soon and I am getting a new studio! I would love to use this idea if you don’t mind? Having readers help design an office is a fabulous idea! Love it!

Maybe I’ve missed a post or two but has there been an update with a photo of your new office – would love to see it xo
