Life Happens

It’s Sunday.

The rain has been coming down all morning and thrumming its fingertips along the edges of our window panes. Beside me, a cinnamon dolce latte steams its way heaven bound and a fluffly golden retriever sleeps at my feet. I love days like this. It’s the kind of day where you want to tortilla yourself up in a goose down duvet and not move for hours. Maybe you sleep a little. Maybe you read a little. But it doesn’t really matter. People in tortilla duvets answer to no one.

This week has been a good one.

A few days ago, Emily sent me this really nice note on facebook. In it she basically said, “I know your days aren’t all balloons and bumble gum” but thanks for putting it out there anyway. I liked that. Because I think that’s how life really is. It isn’t all good. It isn’t always exciting. But somewhere in there….in the moments masquerading as mundane, in the breaths we’re so tempted to look over….life happens.

And in the immortal words of Ferris Bueller, life moves pretty fast, you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it. So in honor of Mr. Bueller, and since it’s Sunday and I’m too tortilla lazy to write a full blog post about any one of them, here’s a lil’ list in bullet form of some of our life happenings this past week.

Here’s to not missing a thing.

*Sometimes we get home pretty late from weddings. If it goes past his normal bed time, Cooper will walk himself up two flights of stairs and put himself to bed. Friday night when we got home, he had even tucked himself in under the covers. Our dog is Planet of the Apes smart.
* Speaking of, have you SEEN the preview for the new Planet of the Apes movie? Seriously, freaky stuff. Just the preview alone, is enough to make me never watch Curious George again.
* Last night we went to go see Crazy Stupid Love at the theater, which was awesome by the way. But while were in line to get tickets, the lady in front of us kept screaming over our heads at her husband at the concession stand. BUTTER. No, what? No I said BUTTER. Can you get it with BUTTER? I wanted to Lucy Liu drop kick her into a vat of some butter.
* I’ve really been loving this song by Jake Owen lately. It makes me all warm & fuzzy inside. And like I want to go find a lake in the backwoods of Mississipi somewhere and live there forever.
* We found this ice cream that looks like Restoration Hardware themselves made it. I can’t decide whether to eat it or paint with it.

* While driving in the car earlier this week, Justin told me that he plans on never going completely gray. Y’know…just 18%. Ba-dum-bump.
* While shooting our wedding at the Bostom Museum of Science, the coordinator told me that a lot of photographers like to put the couple in the Apollo 13 display for pictures. Ummmm Houston, we have a problem. But hey we put them in front of a triceratops named Cliff, so I can’t really say anything. :)
* Allison Walton sent me this link to lil’ Miss Taylor Swift rapping some Eminem. It makes me smile.
* In the past week, three different people have told us we look like Tabitha & Napoleon from So You Think You Can Dance. I’m not really sure how to feel about that.

* At Friday’s wedding, I ended up wearing polka dots AND a sequined headband. After seeing this picture Justin grabbed of me, I’m not sure who would be prouder of me: Annette Funicello circa the 1952 Mickey Mouse Club or a traveling circus performer. Yea, probably the circus performer.

Happy Sunday y’all!

    Ohhhh 18% grayyyy whomp whomp!

  2. Noa

LOL on the 18% grey comment!

And yeah, I also don’t post just about the happy-go-lucky stuff. I actually talked about that in a post I wrote after watching the (fascinating) movie called Catfish. http://www.noablog.com/personal/catfish-social-media-and-how-real-are-you/

  3. Chris Young

Everyone loves NapiTabs and SYTYCD! That’s awesome and something I thought too :)

  4. Kare

Just be glad you had to deal with Butter Lady at the concession stand and not in the seat beside you in the movie! Argghhh…

  5. Sophia Harcourt

It is blogs like this that generally make me laugh and cause me to have a dream last night that I was hanging out with you two and Julia having dinner….creepy;). Eighteen percent gray….nice one Justin…from one corny jokester to another;).

  6. Gabby / En Route Photography

i just cant agree about the nappy/tabs look-alike comment … however, if you and J want to choreograph a hip-hop number, i would totally vote for you guys :o)

  8. Regina Marie

Yeah, I think this makes it into the "phrases I love" memo… "People in tortilla duvets answer to no one. " … Brilliant! maybe that’s what I’ll do tomorrow for my birthday, of course walking around in a duvet in August in Florida might be a bit strange…. But I don’t think anyone would get in my way! LOL!

  9. Graham

Samantha and I have been saying for a while now that you guys are in fact the photo world version of NappyTabs! Don’t worry, it’s a HUGE compliment. :)

  10. Jessica

18% grey…I about fell out of my chair laughing when I read that! I’m pretty sure only you can get away with writing "tortilla duvets" on your blog! Thanks for keeping it real!

  11. Lisa Cour

Just came across this quote and I thought of you….it would go well with your "The Help" post…

"You have to dream, you have to have a vision, and you have to set a goal for yourself that might even scare you a little because sometimes that seems far beyond your reach. Then I think you have to develop a kind of resistance to rejection, and to the disappointments that are sure to come your way" -Gregory Peck

  12. ashley barnett

Jeremy and I are date-nighting it up tonight to see Crazy Stupid Love and I can’t wait! It’s been all hustle and bustle this week since we have been moving and I’m so excited to have a Sunday to just relax. With butter. :)

  13. Christa Hann

I adore these hodge podge posts as I like to refer to them. Just a little bit of everything :)

  14. Cassady

You should totally take looking like Tabitha & Napoleon as a compliment! I can see the resemblance and both of you seem like pretty awesome couples…at least from what I can gather on your blog and SYTYCD :0)

  15. Karen (Mikols) Bonar

Our pup won’t quite put herself to bed, but she’ll stand in front of the closet where her milkbones are kept and stare at it (she gets a milkbone when she goes into her kennel at night). It’s her (not so subtle) way of saying "hey, get the heck to bed!" :)

  16. Mikaela

gosh, I really love your writing. and that ice cream looks DIVINE!

  17. jeramy

it’s funny how our "blog life" and real life don’t always mesh. that’s why we have real friends i think….to remind us. :-) oh…i’m totally with justin…i am dying my hair the minute it turns grey. serious.

  18. Lauren Wakefield

    A. This post makes me incredibly happy.

    B. I, too, am in love with that Jake Owen song. I think I’ll listen to it right now…

  19. Ashley Victoria Photography

Mmmmm.. I love Talenti!! The salted caramel is the BEST!!!

  20. Ashley Gillett

Glad to see I wasn’t the only one who thought the NappyTabs thing. ;)

  21. Allison Walton

Did Justin like Crazy, Stupid, Love? Nick was very *meh* about it.

I made the blog! Squee! No, literally–I squee’d out loud. Nick thought I had a stroke or something. :)

  22. Kristin

"People in tortilla duvets answer to no one."
    Love it. :)

  23. Ray

Thanks for the Taylor Swift singing to Eminem link. I’ve been meaning to check it out, ever since I heard about it. ;o) And you ROCK those polka dots and sequins! ;D
