This past week, in the middle of one of our busiest times of year- the holiday rush, wrapping up all of our final jobs for 2013, getting the ground work done on our first projects of 2014 (some seriously crazy EXCITING stuff coming that we can’t wait to share with you guys!!), and oh yea…Christmas shopping!!- we did something kind of crazy. We snuck off for a few days on an adventure to Charleston SC with some of our closest friends to celebrate Ryan’s birthday and to take in the holiday season, Southern-charm style.
As we were packing our suitcases, I kept telling Justin that we were crazy. Crazy to be leaving in such a busy time. Crazy to be taking any time off at all while there was still so much to do. Crazy to be stepping away & closing our computers for even just one second. But now I realize, THAT was the crazy part.
See, we need that time of rest. We all do. Because in order to really take care of others, we have to make sure we’re taking care of ourselves. We have to make sure we’re taking time to smile, and laugh, and eat good food, and look at Christmas lights. To order the “bitter+ unusual” on the Bartender’s Choice list because, honestly, when will you get that chance again? And to chase down bucket list items like having a bonfire on the beach. In December. Because life moves way too fast to not make stuff like that happen.
And the truth is after just a few days away, we came back recharged and ready for that final push over the last few days to wrap everything up. To respond to the inbox that just seems to always want more, more, more with kindness rather than crankiness. To do random acts of kindness for strangers. To finish our work with care and commitment rather than just slapping something together.
It is good to rest. It is good to laugh. It is good to have Andes candies s’mores on the beach.
Here’s to doing more of that this Holiday season!
