Pancake Session: Words to Live By

A couple days ago as we were picking up some things for the workshop at a local mall out here, I found this wall advertising a new LuLu Lemon store that’s going in there. But instead of just saying “Coming Soon,” the wall had all these amazing quotes for living a good life. I must’ve stood there reading them for a good half hour. And then I took some pictures with my iPhone so I would be sure not to forget.

Then I thought hey…. why not put them up here in a Pancake Session for everyone to see. That way we can all not forget together.

*Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life.
*The world is changing at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you two steps behind. Do it now, do it now, do it now!!
*A daily hit of athletic-induced endorphins gives you the power to make better decisions, helps you be at peace with yourself, and offsets stress.
* LOVE
*That which matters the MOST should never give way to that which matters the LEAST
*Do one thing a day that scares you
*Stress is related to 99% of all illness
*Successful people replace the words “wish,” “should” & “try” with I WILL
*Friends are more important than money.
*Jealousy works the opposite way you want it to.
*Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle them.
*Write down your short and long term goals four times a year.
*Observe a plant before and after watering and relate these benefits to your body and brain.
*Creativity is maximized when you are living in the moment.
*Your outlook on life is a direct reflection of how much you like yourself.

And to thank LuLu Lemon for all the inspiration, we thought we’d give away one of their $25 gift cards to one lucky commenter! Just leave us a note in the comment box telling us which one of the above quotes speaks most to you right now and you’ll be entered to win! Winners will be announced on Saturday!

Also, a huge congrats to the winner of our Chipotle contest, Emily from Belltower Photos!! Shoot us an email with your mailing addy and we’ll get you hooked up!

  1. Karen (Mikols) Bonar

"*Creativity is maximized when you are living in the moment." — LOVE it! I’m making a very big effort to live in the here and now. :)

  2. Nancy Mitchell

They actually all speak to me but after hearing you guys speak the other night at the SD PUG this quote does it for me! ~Successful people replace the words "wish," "should" & "try" with I WILL
Thanks for all that you do in the community and I WILL succeed:)

  3. Sarah Danaher

"That which matters the MOST should never give way to that which matters the LEAST." Allllllllllllll about priorities.

  4. Lara Kimmerer

Well…two of them really speak to me. 1) Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life. – I really believe in this. And 2) Do one thing a day that scares you. – I try to really do this every few months or so. I end up feeling incredibly energized.

  5. chesley

i would say breathe deeply & appreciate the moment. I try to do this, but really struggle with it!!

  6. Jen Creed

"*Successful people replace the words "wish," "should" & "try" with I WILL " Love this, something I needed today!

  7. Alicia White

Right now I’m taking a lot of scary leaps in life. The quote that speaks to me the most right now is "Do one thing a day that scares you " – this is SO true, and I’m trying to push myself each day to face those fears to achieve growth and success <3

  8. dawn beirnes

Do One Thing A Day That Scares You…..convincing myself that I can have a career that I love (photography) almost seems impossible at times, but I’m slowly getting better working on it daily and realizing that I deserve to be happy. But when I think about actually starting a business (which I do daily), it seems scary….so I push…..take more pictures, ask to shoot pictures at birthday parties, etc. Yeah, I GOT THIS!

  9. Brooke ringdahl

Your outlook on life… Best comment ever!!!

  10. sharon elizabeth photography

Can I just say that I tried coming up with a comment 4 times with 4 different quotes.. Ahh, so many good ones!!! But hmm, because I’m corny – I would have to say love!!! In 2 months, I’ll be married.. I’ve learned what love truly is — I’ve learned what it is to love like a friend, love like a daughter, and love like a wife. My life revolves around building meaningful relationships… and that requires true, unconditional love. And that Justin and Mary, is my corniness! haha xoxo

  11. Jennifer Jar

"Stress is related to 99% of all illnesses." I grew up watching my parents work their butts of trying to make a living to provide for me and my brother. The stress and unhealthy eating habits eventually caught up with my dad who ended up having a heart attack. Luckily, it wasn’t a major artery, but it definitely gave us the biggest scare of our lives. It’s so easy to get carried away and give in to stress…but at the end of the day it’s all about your family and friends and happiness.

  12. Jennifer

    For me it’s "LOVE"
Because I’m surrounded by love, from my family and friends. The next couple weeks are huge for me, I’ll be graduating from university and finally out in the "real world" so there’s a lot of stresses right now. But the love that I get from my friends and family and the support they have for me, is huge.

Plus for the first time, I’m currently in love and am loved back. And it’s a wonderful feeling. So love for me is very relevant to my life right now

  13. Ronnie

Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. This saying applies to everything in life. When spending time with my children I always try to breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Because those moments fly by so fast, if you don’t you will miss A LOT.

  14. Angie

Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life.

I think I am always planning for the next day, or the next month, that sometimes I forget to enjoy what I am doing.right.now.

  15. Haley Kruse

You are always inspiring. Thank You for sharing this. I haad to go fill my glass with water right away after reading the plant one. lol.

  16. Jil

oh my goodness! someone had a tote bag with these phrases printed on them and i was awkwardly straining on the subway to be able to read them all. and obviously starring at her for an unacceptable amount of time. but yes – amazing!!

  17. spring

stress is related to 99% of all illness rings SOO TRUE i’ve been stressing a lost the past few weeks and i’ve spent the entire last week IN BED due to a very mean virus.

  18. Chelsea McGowan

"That which matters most should never give way to that which matters least." I spend so much time stressing about things that just simply don’t measure up. I don’t need to lose sleep over what someone else is doing, or whether or not the dishes are done. And it’s funny… the things really worth stressing about? Well, they don’t stress me out somuch. :)

  19. Lydia

"The world is changing at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you two steps behind. Do it now, do it now, do it now!!" AND "Successful people replace the words "wish," "should" & "try" with I WILL."

I’m doing it, I’m finally saying I will get a logo done, finished all my homework, and contacted my graphic artist. I’m tired of making excuses! Years, literally, have gone by…but this time it’s getting done!

  20. Katie Jordan

Do one thing a day that scares you. Can you imagine how far we’d all be in our lives if we actually took that lesson to heart? I am going to do it.

  21. Lindsi Luffman

I love the quote, "Your outlook on life is a direct reflection of how much you like yourself." It’s so true! I try to stay positive about my life and others. Life is hard enough without one more person being negative!L

  22. Dottie

"Creativity is maximized when you are living in the moment. " This one really struck me as I had just snapped something with my iPhone minutes before reading your post. WIN

  23. Ayenia

Right now I need lots of determination so this quote comes really handy:
”Successful people replace the words "wish," "should" & "try" with I WILL ”

  24. Christina

I’m excited for you two to be getting a Lululemon in your local mall. I must say, I have a huge love mark for them. (I watched the stream of you two at the SD PUG) ;-)

The quote that speaks to me the most right now is "breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life." It’s just a great reminder when life gets busy.

  25. Kate

The quote, "Your outlook on life is a direct reflection of how much you like yourself" is something I try to keep in mind these days!

  26. Abigail

Love the words of wisdom. Great way to look at life. Thanks J&M!!

  27. Betsy Jo

I’m holding back tears right now, reading these. I’m not here to enter the contest, I just want to thank you for these. (Already won something so very special from you guys :). I have to admit that the stress/illness one hit me so hard- but I think in a good way. Because I’m partnering it with the ‘Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle them.’ That is a good thought, and I’m going to breathe deeply, soak in the ‘now’ and look forward to the future.

  28. Deborah Zoe

I am a very relational person and so the first quote that jumped out at me was "Friends are more important than money." It’s SO true for me. I try my best to invest in relationships instead of money. Hey, we all have to pay the bills, but it’s our friendships that build us up, not our bank account:)

  29. Alanna

Love these! There’s a huge wall like this in NYC, that has quotes about life and about living in NYC- so cool! My favorite from above is "Creativity is maximized when you are living in the moment. "- so true! I find myself trying to photograph and remember things I learned in the past or poses I saw, and I’m not living in the moment. When I let go and just see where my lens can take me, that’s usually when I get the best shots!

  30. Abbey Domond

Wow!!! This couldn’t have come at a better time. I feel like I’m being hit by setbacks left and right, so the two that speak to me the most are 1) Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle them" and 2) Do one thing a day that scares you. I’ve been afraid for soo long, so my motto this year is to be "unafraid".

  31. Stephanie

I LOVE this! What a great idea…so many wonderful reminders. Love it.

  32. Alyssa Turner

The one that stuck out to me big time was "do one thing a day that scares you. " I am about to take my photography business to weddings only after being encouraged at my workshop with Zach and Jody! I am also considering homeschooling my 5 children. Both these things scare me immensely!!!

  33. Shannon Rosan

The quote – "Creativity is maximized when you are living in the moment." Is SO true for me. It is soooo easy to be distracted, but by living in the moment you can capture – life. And life is what inspires me most :)

  34. Linda Kuo

Yes. Need to carry those around on one of their awesome bags. Ok a few resonated deeply with me. But right now the one that smacks me in the face is…

Stress is related to 99% of all illness as I am home sick as a dog but working.

  35. kat

um. mary. if you have not experienced lululemon, you will L-O-V-E lululemon. looooove it. my quote is: "Your outlook on life is a direct reflection of how much you like yourself. "

  36. katie B

(*The world is changing at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you two steps behind. Do it now, do it now, do it now!! **)
yup this is me, i need to do it now, go back to school and fulfill my dreams to be a RN and help others, every day i hear, katie you are 1/2 a RN. i can’t wait to implement changes, i must do it now and not keep being steps behind, DO IT NOW!! and spread love to others. <3

  37. bobbileigh

Love and the water quote speak loudest to me right now.

  38. Tammie

‘Do one thing a day that scares YOU’ – I live by this quote. Maybe I don’t do something everyday that scares me, but I know if it’s been too long since those butterflies danced around in my tummy, I have been slacking off. Just yesterday I sent an email out that definitely gave me some butterflies as soon as I hit the SEND button…

  39. ashley barnett (and jeremy)

Okay two things. ONE- When I went to comment, my last comment information "autofilled" which left jeremy commenting with me. I left it this time because it made me laugh. TWO. My favorite quote is the one that says: "Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle them". The reason I like this quote most is because I SWEAR I thought it said "Life is full of starbucks." And I thought YES this is a quote I can totally stand by! :) Love you guys!

  40. Lesley

Oh Lulu, my one true love! I have one of their water bottles and it sits on my desk with those quotes as a daily reminder, LOVE IT! :) My fav. is Dance, Sing, Floss & Travel. Because I have no problems Dancing, Singing or jumping on a plane but I HATEEEEE flossing! :)

  41. Alison

"Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle them. " This is my life right now. I am trying to handle them with dignity, self preservation, and understanding rather than anger and resentment. Thanks for sharing these, what a cool "wrap" for them to use!

  42. Elizabeth and Ryan | Elizabeth Ryan Photography

Loving "A daily hit of athletic-induced endorphins gives you the power to make better decisions, helps you be at peace with yourself, and offsets stress." One of our goals this month has been to get ourselves together… ;) meaning work out and take care of ourselves! And let me tell you… it has been amazing!!! It truly does make such a huge difference in mind and body! Love LuLu Lemon- that wall is magical!

  43. Michelle

"The world is changing at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you two steps behind. Do it now, do it now, do it now!"

This hits really close to home. I’m in the midst of a big change and I think it’s going to be great for me. Mentally, physically and professionally!

  44. Elaine

*The world is changing at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you two steps behind. Do it now, do it now, do it now!! – I need this stamped on my forhead!! It’s what I struggle with most… but it’s SO true.

  45. Candace Prokopets

*Do one thing a day that scares you

I’ve been working on facing my fears recently. And loving it!

  46. Kristen Wheeler

"That which matters the MOST should never give way to that which matters the LEAST" ….we have learned this lesson the hard way especially over the past 6 months. We have lost everything which we thought mattered most and realized it doenst matter at all.

  47. Ashley Goodwin

"The world is changing at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you two steps behind. Do it now, do it now, do it now!!"–I had been pondering taking the leap and putting in my notice of leave from my full-time interior design position but wasn’t quite sure if it was the best decision. After attending a CreativeLive workshop this past weekend (with J*) it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was unhappy in my position which seeped into every part of my life, especially my photography. I made the decision to come back and put in my 30-Day notice and could NOT be happier. What was I waiting for? Taking the risk was scary as hell, but I am so thankful that I did and am so happy to share my experience with others! :)

  48. robin underdown

I think there are two that speak to me right now. The first is "That which matters the MOST should never give way to that which matters the LEAST". Sometimes I put work obligations in front of family life. And the second "The world is changing at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you two steps behind! Do it now, do it now, do it now!" There are tons of things that I keep saying I should do or need to do but I keep putting them on the back burner.

  49. Ashley

Stress is related to 99% of illness. Very true… the top three causes of an early death are stress, worry, and tension…. we all need to learn to RELAX and stop sweating the small stuff. I always think to myself "Will this matter a year from now years from now? Five? Ten? Once I’m dead and gone?" And 9 times out of 10 the answer is NO.

  50. Sarajane Case

I needed this today! Thanks for sharing : )

  51. Stephanie Stewart

Oh wow! 2 of these are totally speaking to me: Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life. AND Creativity is maximized when you are living in the moment.
Both are screaming one thing to me, which is to live.in.the.moment. It’s something I work on daily. Sometimes I get caught up in the whirlwind that is everyday life, and forget to stop and let my hair blow in the breeze. Since I have to choose one, I’m choosing the Breathe deeply one.

  52. Kare

*Love* These past few months have really been full of ups and downs and my boyfriend has stood by and taken care of me and lifted me up through it all. There’s so much love, I’m not sure either one of us knew just how much. Love, Love, Love – that’s what I’m feeling.

  53. Ashley Lea

"That which matters the MOST should never give way to that which matters the LEAST." Here’s to sometimes doing what you WANT to do and not what you SHOULD do. Thanks for sharing!

  54. Yesenia Emeric

*Do one thing a day that scares you

right now i really want to work on pushing myself harder to follow my dreams, even if it’s scary! thanks for sharing!

  55. Sophia Harcourt

Love this! Copied, pasted, pretty-ized,printed and hung up for inspiration. Love these kind of quotes. Thanks

  56. Michelle

    Sweet & Simple I love this: )

  57. leslie (crookedstamper)

Oh, definitely the stress being related to illness. My increased frequency of massage sessions is proof of that. :(

  58. Ray

This is speaking to me most right now: "Successful people replace the words "wish," "should" & "try" with I WILL .

  59. Jessica Sweeney

Great marketing by Lululemon as well.

Friends are more important than money, DEFINITELY.

  60. Stephanie Stewart

P.S. I totally experienced creativity while being in the moment during a session this past weekend, and I felt alive, free, and truly happy. I want to bottle up that feeling!!! Thanks again for sharing! (Sorry, I was so excited, I left my comment in the wrong post!)
