We sat on our couch with a golden retriever between us, and ate left over lemon meringues & miniature key lime tartlets. Cooper’s tail draped across Justin’s legs, while his face was planted firmly in my lap. Every so often he would look up at me and sniff the key lime air, and pray that just a few crumbs might come tumbling down.
We looked at each other, and we smiled.
It was 10pm and we had been running non stop all day. And we both knew that for at least the next few weeks we will continue running. But for right then, right in that moment, Michael Scott was declaring bankruptcy on the television, we were at home on our couch, and there was a hopeful golden retriever between us.
And though those moments may be few and far between these next few weeks, I hope that when we catch them we will try to press pause on this life in fast forward just long enough to savor their sweetness.
Especially if that sweetness involves left over lemon meringues & miniature key lime tartlets.
