As soon as we heard that there was going to be a gala for the awards night at the Showit United conference (and this was all the way back in March!!) we immediately KNEW that we wanted to do a Mark Seliger-esque studio like the ones he does for Vanity Fair at the Oscars. But it seemed like such a HUGE goal! I mean, when were we going to find time to build a background like that and would people really get into the idea? Well, seven months later the BIG night was here….and it was SO much more than we could have ever imagined.
Let’s first start by giving credit to the people who MADE this happen…literally! Jason Lackey from Showit built this entire thing from the ground up, and paid attention to every detail including that awesome moulding and those gorgeous wood floors. How PERFECT is this?? When they took us back behind the curtain at the conference for the first time to see it, my jaw literally fell open! And then let’s talk about the painting! Mural Joe was the one who went in and did all the texture and detail, including faux painted on cracks (who does that?!) that made the booth look straight out of Vanity Fair! I am in awe of both of these guys and their incredible talent…and even more so, that they just gave so generously of those gifts without asking anything in return! SO amazing!
We also have to give a HUGE shout out to all of our sponsors: Showit, Profoto, and The Black Tie Bride for helping to cover costs and provide gear. Justin shot all of these with the Pentax 645Z medium format camera and Profoto lights, including a main B1 with a 5 foot octa and a 10 degree grid on a Profoto B2 as a hair light. And we are SO thrilled that every single dollar from this shoot went straight to benefit The School Sessions. Finally, I just have to take a moment to thank my wildly talented husband. Justin worked through the entire gala when he could have just been having fun. He missed dinner and worked for seven hours, but he still had a huge smile on his face and made every person feel loved. And when Field helped him finally get packed up after midnight (thank you Field for being that kind of servant hearted friend!!), there is not a doubt in my mind that he would have done it all over again the following night! Here are just a few of our faves from that night!
PS: A HUGE thanks to Matt Kennedy and Field & Karie Denny for getting us on the other side of the camera so that we got to join in the fun too! And thank you to everyone else who signed up & donated to the School Sessions!
