Soft Pillows
He’s the King of One Liners. This husband of mine.
How does life feel to you? Full. Where are we going? Up. So I take it you like me? Baby, you’re as cool as the other side of the pillow.
Yep he’s got an answer for everything.
One night, when Justin & I were first married, I remember lying there and feeling the need to sort out all the mysteries of life & marriage all before we could go to sleep. Y’know….go ahead and get that out of the way and all. Made sense to me.
“So….what do you think it takes to have a good marriage?” I asked him in my most philosophical, pontificating voice.
He blinked at me through blurry eyes and heavy eyelids, and yawned as he flipped his pillow.
“Hmmmmmmm…soffffft pillows.” And he closed his eyes again.
And just like that I was furious. Flabergasted. Frustrated and fed up.
“Are you kidding me? I’m trying to talk to you about the mysteries of life, marriage and the universe and all you can give me is ‘soft pillows.’ Boy, you better wake up right now and….”
Through closed eyes and a smiling face, he raised one hand to stop me mid-sentence. Before I got really wound up.
“I said soft pillows because I think at the end of the day, no matter what has happened to us or what’s going on in the world outside….we should always have home and each other as a soft place to land. Get it….soft pilllows.”
“Oh….Yea….Soft Pillows. I *totally* knew that’s what you meant. Totally.” :)
And so it makes sense that last night as we had our first date night in the new house, it consisted of the very romantic task of us tackling two months worth of dirty laundry with our brand new, now fully functioning, LG stainless steel washer and dryer. With the True Steam technology. And of course, there was never any question that the first load would have to be our cozy flannel sheets and pillow cases. To make those soft pillows even softer. So that no matter what’s going on in the world outside or what happens during the day, we can start this new life of ours… with a soft place to land.
And now here’s something just for fun from our Miami wedding this past weekend. Much more from that coming very soon!
Can’t wait to see the rest of the photos!
PS- 600 thread-count Egyptian Cotton sheets totally blow Flannel out of the water…ANY DAY. Try them. You’ll never go back.
@Alicia: Oh girl, you are preaching to the CHOIR! All of our other sheets sets are exactly that. But somehow flannel just felt fitting for this.
This post totally made my day! I could see myself doing exactly what you did.. I literally busted out laughing and sent this post to my family. Plus, I came to see y’all when ya’ll were in Charlotte, and I could just picture your expressions. LOVE IT! haha
Love the story of soft pillows! You’ve got yourself, a wise young man of a husband. Can’t wait to see more from the Miami wedding, as today’s little sneak peek is so intriguing.
That is one of the best answers! If only more people thought this way! By the way, loved you guys in Charlotte!!
Congrats on finally getting in your new place! I can’t imagine that there’s anything better than fresh laundry in your own home after being on the road for so long!
What a SWEET story!! You two are completely awesome. BTW, can’t wait to see more from the wedding!
You’ve got yourself a keeper for sure. :) And this photo is beautiful. I can feel the sand between my toes just looking at it. *sigh*
AWESOME analogy Justin! You get major points for that one! :) I LOVE that response!!!
LOVE this post! I can totally see my husband and I having this exact conversation. Me asking what I think is a big philosophical question and him responding with a simple and humorous reply at first…Awesome photo as well :)
Soft Pillows?!?!? Wow that was a good one Justin. I never really thought of it like that. I hate it when I get mad at my husband for saying something silly, when I am trying to have a serious talk with him, and then explains to me what he said. I just feel like putting a sock in my mouth. Oh well – that is what marriage is about. Learning from each other!!!
That story put such a huge smile on my face, and then I scrolled down to that gorgeous image… and my jaw dropped! Anxious to see the rest!!
A great story+ flannel sheets+ a gorgeous photo= a warm and fuzzy feeling post!!
ha, ha, ha….we’re all guilty of doing that. Going to have these greats earth shattering "talks" at bedtime.
Good thing Justin is a quick thinker :) and an even better quick answer!
I LOVE the passion you two have for each other, the passion you have for your business and you life together as a whole. My boyfriend Stefan and I were at your platform class in Vegas last week and we really loved every minute of it. I think you may have even sparked the idea in his head to be my photography partner. YOur writing and storytelling is fantastic and I am enjoying your blog. Can you pass some of the writing genius on to me? Kthxbai :)
Oh, I love that story! You two are so great together and I adore you for the honest true moments you share with us all… the good, the bad, and the ugly ;-) There are some stories you shared at STL that I keep replaying in my mind so that I don’t forget how lucky we are to have found love. XOXO
You guys are so cute. And Justin had a great answer. ;o) Will you be doing any more home renovation entries? I’d love to see how your place is coming along with how you decorated it and all.
On the photo: Gorgeous as always! The Bride’s bridal outfit is beautiful and the groom does NOT fall far behind either. ;D I LOVE, LOVE Indian weddings and I can’t wait to see this one.
You are ridiculously adorable! I can hear your voice as you write (weird, but good) and know that you are right where you are supposed to be. God has given you more gifts that humanly possible and still you are humbly fantastical! oxox
This is the perfect gallery wrap hung in their entry way. Love it.
