Stuff Julia Loves: Workout DVD’s :)

I am a total gymaphobe. The mere thought of walking through the doors as hundred of eyes turn my way is nauseating. And the idea of publicly stretching and then gingerly making my way through rows of equipment to find an open treadmill or elliptical? Not my cup of tea. I’m sorta hyperventilating just thinking about it.

Even when I was five, I prefered huffing and puffing in the privacy of my own home. I used to love rolling out of bed, grabbing a bath towel, and “working out” with Kellyn and the kids on Mousercise. Recently, I’ve been sampling some new workout DVD’s. Ya know, because the youtube videos of Mousercise just weren’t cutting it :) My two favorites? Jackie Warner’s Xtreme Time Saver Workout and Jillian Michael’s Metabolism Boosting Workout. These girls are tough!! And they have NO mercy.

The only problem with working out at home is that I suffer from boredom very easily. Which is why our treadmill seldomly gets used! I just can’t stick with one thing for very long- I need to have a good rotation going. In a few weeks, I’m going to need to switch it up and find some new workouts to try.

So can you guys help a girl out? What are your favorite ways to stay active during the Winter?

Huffing and puffingly yours,

…&J2

  1. Alicia Candelora

Definitely snowboarding or skiing. It takes care of my "leg day" for that week.

  2. Alison

I like (use the term like loosly cause I call her lots of names while doing it) Jillian Michaels Shred DVD. There are three different levels to change it up a bit. I am not a gym girl myself, but I do a zumba class twice a week too and it is a ton of fun (coming from an exercise hater) and everyone but the instructor is uncoordinated so it is all good!

  3. Sophie

I am all for the old 80s workout tapes.. seriously the music is really upbeat and the outfits are hilarious!
Kathy Smith is one of my personal favorites!

  4. Crystal

I’ve been working through 4 different Jillian Michael’s DVDs. Burn Fat, No More Trouble Zones, 30 Day Shred and Yoga Meltdown. I tried to pick up running again, but we’re having an unusually rainy & snowy winter here in Memphis.

  5. Gail

Tracy Anderson tapes are awesome. Pilates Winsor style are good too! My hubby and I spent chunks of 2010 doing P90x, but I got bored and so now I’m back to the Y. I LOVE my weight training class there!

  6. Karen (Mikols) Bonar

    WALKING THE DOG!!!!!!

  7. Karen (Mikols) Bonar

On the treadmill, I can’t read while walking, but get a good book on tape/cd/mp3 and I can go for hours!!! Keeps my mind from being too bored.

  8. josh solar

My wife loves her some Jillian Michaels, too. I personally bust my ass with some Insanity, but to each their own :)

  9. Jil

i also get bored with the same old workout, so i rotate through the different workouts on the fit-tv channel. i especially like some of their yoga episodes. oh, and "mousercize" is just about the cutest thing ive ever heard!

  10. Matt Tundermann

Get the Xbox Kinect with the Your Shape Evolved game. It personalizes your workout, has tons of different workouts to choose from, and has Jillian Michaels trained sessions on there. Awesome workout game.

  11. Catie Ronquillo

Have you heard of Chalene Johnson – she has some great workouts – like Turbo Fire and Turbo Kick… I agree, I get bored and so it’s tough to stick with something, over and over. And I’m so with you, I remember Mousercise!! And the crazy kids that did the full late-80’s sit-ups!

  12. Michelle

Julia! While I *finally* found a gym that I don’t hate going to, and so I don’t share the same level of gymophobia as you, I can totally relate because I love working out at home, too. Especially on days like today, because there was no way I was heading out in all that snow! So, I popped in my Jackie Warner Circuit Training DVD and got a great workout in my living room. Jillian and Jackie are my favorites…I don’t have the Xtreme Time Saver, but I have (and can recommend) every single one of Jillian’s DVDs. Even Jillian’s yoga is intense. I’ve been wanting to get Body by Bethenny for yoga/pilates. Oh, and I never did Mousercise, but I did have the Barbie Dance Party with Paula Abdul, and that s*** was hard. I tried to do it last year as a joke and I still couldn’t do it! Haha.

I often think a treadmill would be awesome to have so I could walk while watching a favourite show. That way I could justify wasting time watching tv and I wouldn’t have to be bored walking nowhere. LOL. Luckily I love hiking and there are loads of great trails here so that’s what I do. Best of all, there’s always great stuff to shoot out there too and I get to scout potential locations. LOVE multitasking!

  14. Michelle

Its finding the time to work out that is the toughest for me in the winter. With a 9-5 day job its so hard! The mornings are cold and dark, and I just don’t want to get out of bed at 6 am to work out. And jumping on a treadmill? ick. I miss the spring and summer when I can go bike riding, hiking and jogging out side at practically any time of the day. Only 52 more days until spring! (yes, I’m counting).

  15. MM

Totally just went out and bought the Jillian dvd….in addition to two more from her!! Can’t wait to try em out!

  16. Julia

@MM YAY! Now we can love to hate her together!! :)

  17. Elizabeth

I LOVE Jillian Michaels!!! I have her 30-day shred, and love it. But ya, I know how you feel on the whole bordeom thing…I also love using our Wii Fit. Surprisingly it gives you a really good workout! :)

  18. Karen Stott

Oh my gosh I’ve totally been shredding with Jillian Michaels lately. LOVE!
