Stuff We Love: Country Music….and Home

Today I hope you are all out doing something you love. Something that feeds your soul and helps you find another little piece of your heart. Something that forces you to slow down, to breathe, to give thanks, to give more.

For this post, I wanted to share a song with you that’s been on my heart lately. That’s been on my mind. The first time I heard it, I cried big soppy unpretty tears. Fat tears. Full tears. Smushed up face tears. The kind of tears that tell you somehow, somewhere, deep down a nerve was hit. And it was hit hard.

Today I hope for just a second, you’ll slow down and give thanks for the people and the places that built you.

I know that I am.

dangggggggggg…..mary. why’d you have to go and do that? haha. I’ve never heard the song but it got to me. My parents just sold my childhood home last year.

  2. Brandi

Girl…I was just talking to my best friend about this song. I told her I FEEL every line of this song." All the best, Brandi.

wow….that song just sucker punched me. I live in Nashville (smyrna actually) so I’m all about the country songs! Thanks guys. This just made my day.

Awww- this song hit me with a double whammy! I spent the morning in the garden- a place that always makes me feel a little closer to home and a place that makes me think about the man we bought our house from. He was an avid gardener, and every time I plant something, I secretly hope that he and the family he raised here would approve! Thank you for sharing!

Funny, because when I heard this I was immediately reminded of your talk at WPPI and was going to send this song to you, so that you could hear it! Looks like your way ahead of me:)!

  6. Evie Perez

Agh!! I love this song and it’s been in my head for evah. Ok maybe not for evah, but for a week! I have been home today whining down, cooking, doing laundry, and cleaning the closet. Yes it has been a good Sunday.

  7. Devon Jo

I did the exact same thing! I ♥ it!

I actually pulled over to listen to this song the first time I heard it, it struck a huge spot for me.
On a totally separate note, the photographers get together yesterday that was hatched at the STL Maine was a blast yesterday and plans are in the works for more soon!

Mary–I just listened to this for the first time and now have tears streaming down my face. What a beautiful song. With all the hoopla around wedding planning it really reminded me (again) how lucky I am just to have my family with me…and wonder what I would do without them. Thank you for posting this. :) You guys are more than photographers….you are inspirational.

We must be on the same wave length. Recently I have been thinking about your talk at STL and stories about your childhood home and your dad’s hands. The hands and homes that build our dreams. Great song!

    …can’t stop watchin’. Can’t stop cryin’…

I adore this song. I think you guys know that both of my grandparents died this year, just 4 months apart (my grandaddy died just a few days before STL…). This summer we’ll be going through their house…the house where my parents and I also lived for a few years…where we picked magnolia blossoms every summer…where they filled our Sundays with music and meals…where we had umpteen cookouts and birthday parties and family gatherings…where I became the person I am today. I cannot listen to this song without tears, without happy memories, without gratitude for the people and places who built me, who love me, who are proud of me beyond words. Thanks for sharing, and for letting me share!
