Well after a week of lost houses, ONGOING email baby mama drama, and fighting off a nasty cold…it’s pretty safe to say we’ve been taking the “lay low with your seat and tray table in their upright positions” approach here at Chez Marantz these past few days. What can I say…it’s been a rough week. We all have them and this week our number was called. And believe me, if ANYTHING was going to cheer me up after a week like that, there is only ONE thing that it could possibly be……
WV stuff from people that I love!!
First up, my grandma sent me this lil’ guy. C’mon…how cute is he?? I can’t wait to put him up in our new HOUSE and then EMAIL everybody I know about him while BREATHING freely and being completely free of cold-like-symptoms. Now THAT’LL be a good day, can I get an AMEN?
And THEN the greatest mama-in-law on the PLANET just sent me this necklace of WV. At first I thought that the little star just represented the state capital of Charleston, WV, but then she told me that she actually called up the company and gave them the zip code for where I grew up and THAT’S where they placed the star. How cool is that?!
And I gotta say that this is SO great because people are always asking me where exactly in WV I grew up. And to an unsuspecting bystander, the answer can be …well…just a little offensive. See, for all of you folks out there in blogland who DON’T know a good ole girl or boy from WV personally, let me fill you in on a little known fact.
Ready? Here goes.
As it turns out, the universal sign for my illustrious home state is….drumroll please….the finger. The middle one to be exact. As in… flipping the bird. Keeping up foreign relations. Finger up. Thumb out. Palm facing your audience. Think about it…..think about it….go ahead and try it out, cause you know you want to….annnnnd THERE it is!! So basically they would ask me where I’m from and THAT would be my answer.
So now when someone asks me where I’m from, I can just pull out that necklace, point to it and say “see that little star right there…. well, that little star is ME!!” :) :)
And I gotta be honest, there’s just something about telling that story that has me smiling again. Amen!
