This or That: Fun or Scary?

A few days ago, I was walking the dogs, and noticed Halloween decorations popping up along the way. Graveyards grew in lawns, pumpkins sat on doorsteps, and ghouls appeared between the red and orange leaves. I have to tell you, there are mixed feelings about this in my house.

I like to decorate with sparkly skeletons, wide eyed grinning pumpkins and polka dot bats (yes, polka dot, I made them myself!). Whereas my husband Mike, given his way, would decorate our house with zombies, vampires, and other decorations so macabre that Stephen King would be proud.

The debate continues year after year… and I have to admit. I usually win. Simply because he knows that if he makes the house scary enough… I won’t even get out of the car and walk to the front door. I would need an escort 24/7. Because I am a big ‘ole scaredy cat.

So my friends, it’s time for another edition of This or That! Weigh in… do you like your halloween fun and cute or bloodcurdling and scary? One lucky commenter will win a $25 gift certificate to Pottery Barn! So you can get your decorating on! :)

**And a HUGE congrats to the winner of the new TV This or That, Miss Jenny McQueen, an itunes e-card is on its way to you!

Wimpishly yours,

  1. Lelia

Cute for sure! In fact… I’d rather just stick with whole pumpkins and hay. NO scary.

  2. Chesley

    Fun and cute for sure!!!!

  3. Heather Beach

Fun and cute all the way!! I am with you on the sparkly decorations and happy pumpkins!

  4. Sarah

I am more so an "in-between girl". I don’t want it to be cute, but nothing ghoulish either. No smiling pumpkins, but no blood and guts. :)

  5. Jil

    definitely sparkles!! LOVE fall :o)

  6. karen Bonar

    bling, bling! :)

  7. michelle

I am definitely a cute & fun Halloween lover. :)

  14. Elizabeth

being a ghost hunter bloodcurdling and scary is the way to go.

  15. Laura

Cute and fun, definitely, at least leading up to Halloween night. Then, scary and spooky is the way to go, those trick-or-treaters set themselves up for it!

  16. stacy hart

Cute and Fun for sure :-) I

  17. Emily

Definitely fun and cute! If my house was decorated scary I would probably wet my pants on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night!

  18. Elizabeth

    definitely cute and fun :)

  19. Jen

    Cute and fun, definitely!

  20. Becca

Totally cute and fun! And cheesy. definitely cheesy.

  21. Jennifer Bacchiocchi

Personally, I go for the cute, too, as I am a complete wimp. But, I have to admit, my friend and I ran a charity haunted house (in the basement of a super creepy old library) for 3 years and I loved to scare the pants off of people! My favorite creation was a spooky doll room! We had volunteers that refused to go in it even with all of the lights on! So now I totally get the appeal :)

  22. Katie S

definately cute and fun! This is the start of my favorite times of the year! Must start off cute :)

  23. Samantha

The Terhune family is all about the fun and cute halloween decor. We are thinking of pumpkins with bowties this year! xoxo

  24. Sydni Jackson

cute and fun – no question

  25. Elizabeth N.

Bloodcurdling and scary…though that might change soon enough as I think I am becoming a bit more of a scardy cat as I get older :(

  26. Tricia

Definitely cute and fun- Polka dots and glitter all the way! :) Anddd without reading Julia posted today, first I said dog(s)? Did they get another dog or is that a typo… then it says "My husband Mike…" I said hold up, what? hahaha too funny!! It’s been a loong day!

  27. Nicole

Can it be both?? I definitely have mercury glass pumpkins, crystal skeletons, and pastel squash/gourds strewn around the house (more like floor to ceiling!), but I love pretend spiders hidden around the house, fake bloody handprints on my entrance mirror and some gravestones in the front yard too ;)

  28. Joe Don Richardson

Cute and Whimsical is where I fall. HA I made a joke without meaning too. Fall, get it, oh well I amuse myself at least.

  29. Kristin H.

Fun and cute for sure!! The realistic and scary stuff terrifies me also.. My neighbor has a vampire thing on a flag that waves outside my window and it scares the heck out of me EVERY morning!!! Cute polka dot bats all the way :)

  30. Stacey

I love the fun whimsical & glittery decor of Halloween! I can not even look at the scary decorations with out getting the hebee geebees.. Fun only!

  31. Emma P

I love the cute and fun Halloween decorations, not the scary ones! Glitter pumpkins, bats on the window and of course a few red and black tissue paper pom poms hanging from the ceiling.

  32. Sarajane Case

I def. love the glittered skulls and polka dotted bats! Fun and trendy all the way for me! I’m not trying to wake up in the middle of the night, forget where I am, and end up running into the yard screaming from a plastic skeleton ‘chasing’ me. Nope.

  33. natalie

Scary all the way! Even my kids like the scary stuff!

  34. Danielle

I love the fun cute stuff. I didn’t like Halloween until my husband introdued me the cute fun side of it.

  35. Jenny McQueen
