Today We Are Rich

One of the people I follow on Twitter is Tim Sanders (@sanderssays). He is positive and inspiring and he challenges me to be a better person. To be honest, I’ve been doing a lot of filtering on social media lately to only allow people like that into my world. Because let’s face it, life is way too short to allow a constant stream of negativity to be the stuff that makes up your days & weeks. And as far positivity goes, Tim leads the pack. So when I heard that he had a new book coming out (He is also the author of two of my favorite books of all time: Love is the Killer App & The Likeability Factor) I knew I had to have it.

Well as it turns out, fate has a way of providing.

Last night, Justin & I made the drive up the Pacific Coast Highway as the sun was setting over the California coast to visit our own wedding photographer turned friend David Jay in Santa Barbara. And when we walked into his house, there sitting on the coffee table were two copies of Today We Are Rich waiting for us. Like he just had a feeling we would need them.

Because sometimes fate has a way of providing.

Providing friends you know are in your corner. Providing inspiration when you most need it. Providing the exact message you need to hear when you most need to hear it.

And today, I feel like I’m the rich one because of it.

I started the book this morning and I’m already four chapters in. That’s where this morning’s quote came from. In short, it is blowing my mind. :) And since we have been so blessed, we want to make sure that we’re also paying that forward. So leave a comment in the box below and we are going to be picking FIVE lucky winners to win their very own copy of Tim Sanders’ Today We Are Rich. So hopefully it can blow your mind too! :)

And thank you sooo much DJ for…well, for everything. Seriously. We love you!

  1. Nancy Mitchell

I would LOVE a copy of the book Today We Are Rich! Love that you got to meet up with your friend DJ. Sounds like you two are having a blast in CA! Safe travels!

  2. Ellen

Sounds like something I should read!

  3. Jen Creed

Always love your inspirational posts :)

  4. Tira J

I need and want to read that book! Just started following Tim Sanders on twitter. DJ is the most generous guy out there. Glad you got to spend time with him.

  5. Jentry Aileen

I have done the same in w/ my social media stuff as well – I got really tired of overwhelming negativity!

    Awesome giveaway :)

  6. Lindsay Taryn

I’ve been following you guys ever since I saw you speak at the NYC PUG this year :) You’re super inspiring – thanks for always paying it forward!

  7. Gina Meola

So fun you got to visit DJ!! AND that just the right thing was waiting for you :) Love you two

  8. ashley barnett

Ah! When I saw your quote on Facebook this morning I said out loud "man I needed to hear that today." I think fate has you posting this opportunity for me to take advantage of :).

  9. Alicia Candelora

I have read "Love is the killer app" but not the others. Love his writing style! And that view at DJ’s…..yeah….

  10. Liz Lovi

It sounds like a wonderfully inspiring book…just like you two!

  11. Faith

I watched your PUG presentation through the Youngren’s Ustream webcast last week and was SO blessed by it! Thank you so much for being so open and willing to help others! You are two inspiring people, that’s for sure! :)

  12. Aric Becker

Thanks for sharing!! You guys are such an inspiration!

  13. Christine Donovan

    Beauty of a post.
May I suggest the Celestine Prophecy series and Mutant Message Down Under. I read these books many years ago, and am rereading their message, because they have powerful truths. I’m excited to read this book, and to finally find "Love is the killer App" I can’t find it anywhere locally!

  14. Amory

You have the greatest book reccomendations. Getting my hands on lovemarks very soon, as well!

  15. Michelle Standerfer

sounds like a fantastic life changing book. I need this so badly right now in my life. Your posts are so fun to read and how fantastic is that, that you got to hang w/DJ. Dying over his view btw…

  16. Meg Walton

That sounds like the perfect book for me!! Hearts from Hallmark!

  17. Kate Giovinco Photography

I am definitely going to look into that book if I don’t win a copy. It sounds amazing.

I love books! And of course you guys:)

  19. Spring

ohhh sounds like a good one and I just finished a book and have been on the look out for what to read next.

  20. Tim Hussey

That’s awesome! would love to give that a read!

  21. Molly

  23. Terri Beregi

This author sounds great. I’m always looking for something inspiring to read! :)

  24. Christina Sandberg

So true! We often fail to see the greatness and richness that already lies within us. I love Exodus 4:1-4 where Moses begins to doubt God, and God simply asks "What’s that in your hand?" We have already been provided with all that we need, we just need to learn to see it.

  25. Julia R

You guys are so sweet! I wanted to enter because I could use some extra positive energy right about now :-)

  26. Ashley Lea

Your book list is so fascinating. Can you guys post a long list one day? This one sounds like another book to add to my wish list… Unless I win it ;) Thanks for always being so inspiring, encouraging and informative!

  27. Jensey

Entering because if there’s something I need more than anything else, it’s confidence!

  28. candace

Ooohh, I would LOVE to read this!!!

  29. Lauren Wakefield

I LOVE his books! I need to catch up on my reading like nobody’s business. Vacation anyone?

  30. Matt Gibson

I haven’t read the book or any of Tim’s books yet. I’m currently reading The Way We’re Working Isn’t Working by Tony Schwartz and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Life is an amazing gift and I’m blessed whenever I’m reminded of that by others through conversations, books and talks.

  31. Meridith

Would love to read this book:) Thanks for the recommendation

  32. Niki

I believe confidence is what many struggle with. I’d love, love, love to read this book! Thanks so much for all you do! xo

  33. Katie Jordan

I was wondering about your quote this morning on Twitter/Facebook.

I am going to look up his other books too!

Positivity definitely leaves your world wide open for wonderful things to happen. Thank you for all the inspiration you freely give out.

  36. Brooke

Ooh I’ve never read his stuff but it sounds like it’s right up my alley! Thanks for the chance to win. :)

  37. Rupa

This is gonna’ sound so sappy but I just teared up reading this post and I admitting it is a bit tough but necessary. The part of where fate has a way of providing…friends…inspiration…the message. I, too, made a big decision earlier this year to filter the bitterness and fake and negative and there are days it feels a bit lonely but when I read your post(s), it makes me know I have done the right thing as well. It has made me richer…as a friend, mom, wife, photographer and more. Thanks Mary…you rock..whether I win the book or not, you know I’d have commented regardless! : )

  38. James

I totally empathize with cutting the negative out. I have made it a habit to hide from those people on all the social sites. Best of luck to you

  39. Jennifer Valluzzo

Really really feeling the need to read this book. Thanks :)

  40. Melissa Johnson

That’s awesome! I’m going to have to check out his other two books too. Sounds like they’re good ones to keep on the shelf for future re-reading!

  47. Rachel

Awesome!! I would love to read this book!!!

  48. Rebecca

Could totally use some positivity – trying to juggle this new business taking off and my little ones and the stress of everyday life is taking its toll!

  49. Annette Elliott

I have a serious passion for photography, and although following your blog is something I do daily, my passion is people/families. I would love to start a business saving memories that people can cherish, but I am so held back. There are so many great photographers out there and I feel like I don’t measure up! I would love to have something positive to refer to. Maybe then I’ll find the inspiration, and confidence in myself to go out and get started!

  50. Emily Crall

I can’t wait to read this book! I love a huge dose of positive spirit!

  51. Emily Crall

  52. Elizabeth & Ryan | Elizabeth Ryan Photography

Definitely just added Tim Sanders to my twitter feed! Loving the positivity already! ;)

  53. Emily Crall

Everytime I try to comment on my iPhone, it doesn’t work, but that’s okay because I like to visit your site in large-screen. :)

Anyway, what I was going to say via my iPhone was that I can’t wait to read this book and that I love inspiring people who are positive and uplifting. Since I’m grumpy today (sore throat and a head cold=awesome!), this is just what I need. :)

  54. Catie Ronquillo

Love following Tim Sanders! Love is the Killer App was one of the very first books I read before diving into business – on recommendation from DJ! Can’t wait to read Tim Sanders’ new book!

  55. Tina

Oooo this one has been on my list for a while now, just never got around to picking a copy up!

  56. Christa

That’s a really cool shot of DJ. Need to add that book to the list of books i want to read :)

  57. Alicia Kleppinger

Sounds great! As Spring is approaching (in most places) what a great time to refresh and start focusing on the positive things in our lives. What we have instead of what we don’t have. Love you guys!

Always love it when you’ll recommend reading material. If it on your list it is usually on mine.

  69. Chelsea McGowan

    Gimme Gimme Gimme!
I do the same thing with filtering social media, Mary. Life is too short to log on and hear just griping. I try to always approach every situation with an eye on the positive, and I appreciate others who do the same. And, like crazy, we appreciate YOU!
Whether we win the contest or not (and man, I really want to!), we’ll be buying this book. Because it sounds like just the kick in the pants we need to run over the rain clouds and get to the sun.
    Thanks for being consistently fabulous!

  70. Lydia

    Would love to read this!

  71. Linda

Could definitely use a good read that helps me stay positive and confident! Sounds like you are enjoying every minute on the West Coast!

  102. Sophia Harcourt

So funny, I was thinking to myself yesterday that you should start a "What is Mary reading list" since you tend to share about something you learn from what you are reading. It just always leaves wondering what book it is when you don’t mention the title. I could use some positivity and inspiration today. I was let go from my job yesterday and I am trying to put a positive spin and on it and believe it is my cue to get my butt in gear with trying to make photography my job.

  103. Kelli Boling

Great idea – thanks for the opportunity! Pick me please! :-)
