One of our favorite parts of The Legacy section on the new site is this page that says “The truth is, we don’t take these photos just for the bride. We take them for her granddaughter to find one day.”
I just love this idea that one day it will be our photos that a grown up granddaughter will look through to discover this version of her grandmother she never got to know…but we did. The young, in love, just starting out, full of hope & promise for the life stretching out before her version. The one without the wrinkles and silver in her hair. A version of her that was as full of life and adventure and big dreams and a heart full of love as that granddaughter will hopefully one day hold. And in that moment, we can show her how much she has in common with this great lady. This woman who was once a bride…but even more importantly a wife and a partner. A woman who helped ensure for the generations to come after her, that this family of theirs….whatever else happened, it always started with love.
These are the pictures I have from my own Grandma Goldie’s wedding. I got to be that granddaughter who found them one day. And when I look at them, I see so much of me. Every brave, fiery, feisty, funny, adventurous, I Love Lucy-loving thing in me can be traced back to her. And in more one ways than one, I am alive today because of who she was.
